nashville is the new LA?

well, that was the name of the party i went to with some friends last week. but what does that mean???
we care more about what clothes we're wearing than about the homeless all around us without clothes?
we worry more about hitting up the latest party than if our neighbor down the street really needs to talk?
we are concerned more about the circles we run in and the friends we claim than if we are truly connecting?
well, i think any "progressive" city has some of that...trying to keep up with the ever-changing trends and fashions and culture. and nashville is home to so many celebrities, sometimes it does feel like hollywood.

but my hope is nashville will NOT become the new LA...that we'll stay true to our southern roots of hospitality and sincerity. that we'll care more about loving our neighbor than loving our reputation. that we'll care more about growing our relationships than our bank account.

i know that i have found authentic community here and i am so thankful...my prayer is that God will continue to use me here to be real and passionate...even when that means being different.

hebrews 11 talks about "seeking a homeland...desiring a better country...a heavenly one" and how God has "prepared for them a city"...
i pray our efforts would be focused on the perfect city that is to come (hebrews 13:14)

"being exiles does not mean being cynical. it does not mean being indifferent or uninvolved. the salt of the earth does not mock rotting meat. where it can, it saves and seasons. and where it can't, it weeps. and the light of the world does not withdraw, saying "good riddance" to godless darkness. it labors to illuminate. but not dominate."

here are some pictures from the party...

YAY! She's back! :) Glad to read some more of your thoughts, babe... I've missed you!

I totally agree with you, and hope that people EVERYWHERE do as well. I miss southern hospitality but I'm glad that I'm on the southern side of the Potomac river, still feeling the southern love.

Love you, babe. You look great.

Oh and guess what! I got my hair done and my hair stylist gave me a "swoop" - long bangs that sweep to the side - just realized it's like yours! No wonder I like it :)

how about when you go dowtown San Diego you have to step over the sweet homeless people & their dogs to just walk down the sidewalks- some just cover themselves with a blanket & sleep in the middle of everything- it's amazing how many people (i am guilty too) just walk by without even glancing down. Even if we don't have money, food or clothes to give them- just stopping to say something, smiling & acknowledging them as people- showing them respect & that they are valuable- it often means so much to them. I always want to be better at that.
